On Christmas Day, elderly couple Matjaž and Vera are waiting for the whole family to gather so they can enjoy a festive dinner together. They don’t notice that Santa Claus has approached the house, sneaked in through the window, and secretly poured the contents of his sack into the wine on the table.

Bosnia during the war. An American journalist, Mary, and Major John are trapped in a mountain hunting lodge during a snowstorm.

A family – father, mother, two sons, their lover and grandmother – are living in utter misery and poverty. Their home is a dark cellar, their usual meal is a soup of rotten vegetables and rat meat.
